1月16日,Dr. Alexandra Harrer, an architectural historian from Austria,I was invited by the project team of "Into the Old Summer Palace" of Tsinghua High School to give a special English lecture,A total of about 100 students and teachers of the innovation class of Grade 1 (Grade 14) of Tsinghua Affiliated High School listened to the lecture。
She has been engaged in research in China for many years. She completed her postdoctoral research at Tsinghua University in 2014 and is currently working at the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University。As an expert in the history of Chinese architecture, she focuses on comparative architectural history, such as the historical spread of Chinese architectural skills from east to West, and the cultural misunderstandings caused by the fascinating differences between fact and imagination。This time, she explained to the students some typical features of Western architecture and the latest results of digital restoration of the Old Summer Palace。
Dr. Ho Yali first showed and explained the simulated restoration effect of the Yuanmingyuan building made by her team in the form of video。While the students were amazed, she asked, in addition to on-site measurement and investigation, where else can the initial data be recovered? After consideration, the students realized that due to the large number of Western-style buildings in the Yuanmingyuan, the restoration work required a large amount of collation of Western buildings, especially Western buildings of the same period and before。Taking "pillars" as an example, Dr. Holyali went on to explain some typical features of Western architecture, such as the different types of pillars and the way they were built。The students listened while taking notes, learning with relish。
